Witches Mark
The Story
In the shadowy annals of history, there lies a grim tale of fear and fervour, where whispers of witchcraft ignited flames that engulfed innocence. The air thickened with suspicion in a small village nestled amidst rolling hills, and accusations festered like oozing wounds. Beneath the accusing gaze of the mob, figures clad in rags and bound by chains were led to the pyre, their eyes reflecting a mixture of defiance and despair. As the flames leapt hungrily, consuming the accused, the cries of anguish mingled with the crackling of the fire, echoing through the valley as a haunting reminder of humanity's darkest impulses.
Yet amidst the smoke and ashes, a flicker of rebellion simmered, a defiance against the tyranny of ignorance. For every witch that perished in the inferno, a spark of resistance ignited in the hearts of those who dared to challenge the status quo. And though the flames may have claimed their bodies, their legacy blazed brighter than ever, a beacon of hope amidst the darkness, illuminating the path towards a future free from the shackles of fear and persecution.
The Witches Mark was used in the Dark Ages to identify witches and could include moles, freckles, skin tags and supernumerary nipples. Burning at the stake was a public spectacle and often included the consumption of Ale. The beer is a historical English Ale based on a recipe from the Clare household brewed in the 1300’s. This reproduction, a spiced Autumn Ale combines English malts, Nottingham yeast and Autumn spices in a delicate authentic balance. No hops were harmed in the making of this Old English Ale.
